A Special Learning Series with Learning Forward Georgia
Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.
If you’re new to this series, you’ve arrived in the middle of an intentional learning journey created by Learning Forward Georgia to support educators, coaches, and leaders engaged in literacy work and professional learning across the state of Georgia.
This page will help you:
- Understand what this series is about
- See how the pieces connect
- Decide where to begin
- Participate at a pace that works for you
There’s no “catching up” required. Learning doesn’t work that way.
What This Series Is
- A practice-centered learning experience
- Grounded in the updated Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning
- Connected to real coaching and leadership roles
- Shaped by reflection, dialogue, and small actions
Each post is designed to help you think, try something in practice, and reflect — individually or with colleagues.
The Coaching Roles Series
Inspired by Taking the Lead by Joellen Killion, this series explores 10 coaching roles that support professional learning and instructional improvement. With literacy as the central focus within the state of Georgia, practice for mastery and development of leadership and coaching skills is essential for supporting student outcomes. As the Learning Forward Georgia affiliate, we take pride in supporting the state’s education initiatives that we can impact directly.
These roles are not job titles.
They are ways learning leadership shows up across classrooms, coaching, and systems.
You’ll see roles such as:
- Resource Provider
- Instructional Specialist
- Classroom Supporter
- Learning Facilitator
- Mentor
- Data Coach
- School Leader
- Catalyst for Change
- Learner
Each role post includes:
- A real-world explanation
- A short reflection
- One concrete action step to try
You don’t have to do everything.
Trying one action step and noticing what happens is enough.
Learning grows through attention, not completion.
Why Joellen Killion’s Voice Matters Here

- Learning requires trust and reflection

These ideas shape the structure of this entire campaign – not just the content.
