ROLE 5: LEARNING FACILITATOR
Designing Learning That Invites Thinking
In this learning series of 10 coaching roles outlined in the book, “Taking the Lead”, today we’ll focus on the Learning Facilitator role. Author Joellen Killion’s love of learning shows up most clearly in her approach to facilitation.
She believes professional learning should feel engaging, thoughtful, and purposeful – not rushed or performative. Learning doesn’t happen by accident; it’s designed.
As a Learning Facilitator, the focus is on creating experiences that invite dialogue, reflection, and application. When learning is well designed, educators stay engaged and see relevance to their daily work.
Action Step:
Redesign one meeting this week to include more dialogue than slides.
If this reflection connects to your current work, consider joining us this February as we explore ideas like this together with Joellen at the Learning Forward Georgia Winter PL Conference in Atlanta, GA on February 27, 2026.
